Valley U.S. Boxing Assoc. Cruiserweight Champion B. J. Flores (21-0-1) supported Celebrity Fight Night 2008 a fundraiser for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center to fight against Parkinson’s. John Mellencamp, Dionne Warwick, Jordan Sparks and Sinbad entertained guests. Kevin Costner, Clive Davis, Reba McEntire and LaDainian Tomlinson were honored and live auction items raised funds. B. J. After graduating from high school in Missouri , the all state football/ track & field athlete attended BYU. Flores became a missionary in Mexico for two years living in one of the poorest areas and helped build houses and help the less fortunate. Flores trained where Julio Caesar Chavez trained as a child in Culiacan .
After watching Flores hand out numerous beatings in sparring sessions, the locals began calling him "Peligroso" meaning "dangerous".

When
Detroit's Coach Mims was recently on the phone coordinating a youth
football camp with Nike Sparq he was asked, "When do you ever sleep?!"
Coach Mims laughed and replied, "Not often."
If you came up through the Detroit
PAL system or the Detroit Public School system and played football,
then you know Coach Mims. If you did not, allow me to introduce you
all to a real Detroiter through and through. Coach Garnett Mims comes
from a family of 10 brothers (and 7 sisters) who runs a program called
"Muscles In Motion Systems" locally here in Metro-Detroit.
Its a program that costs Coach Mims plenty of his own money and
countless hours of his time to run, but at the end of the day, Coach
Mims has a good reason why its all worth it. "Its all about the kids." When Mims was just a kid himself he was welcomed into the original Powerhouse Gym on Woodward Ave
by co-founders "Big" Will and Norm "Hulk" Dabish.
"When me and my brothers were like 12 or 13, we would ride our bikes to the gym and sneak in, but they knew we were just kids who wanted to work out. They used to tell us if your serious about working out, your always welcome. But the gym is not place to play around. Here we were just kids and we were working out with Will, Norm and Ron Love, those guys are icons." Some 25 years later, Powerhouse Gyms International is now a loyal supporter of Coach Mims mentoring of Detroit area youths.
Coach Mims' "Muscles In Motion Systems" has built a relationship with educational institutions and business partners to help high school student athletes hoping to play collegiate sports at the next level and need help getting there.
With the help of our partnership with www.HSSMS.com and www.ChosenOneSports.com these athletes can choose the college of their choice. While
most of the people running programs like Coach Mims focus on the big
time names and high profile schools of the BCS, Mims is happy to help
the kids from all over Metro-Detroit get the chance to play at the
collegiate level no matter where that might be.
Just a few weeks ago Coach Mims drove a bus load of Metro-Detroit area high school students down to Arkansas Baptist College, which plays football at the JUCO level, and secured financial aid for 9 out of 9 players that signed letters of intent. So while most news outlets are busy covering the next big signing of a "blue chip" All American, I want to take this time to say thanks to a real All Detroiter, Coach Mims for reaching back and helping out those kids all over Metro-Detroit.
